Lehigh Valley Steelhawks team players, coaches, front office staff and community supporters will volunteer at Judith’s Reading Room, 5 East 3rd Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015 TONIGHT to box books for the troops. Members of the Steelhawks organization will choose books from the extensive collection at Judith’s Reading Room, select the ones that they think would be perfect for our troops, then write a handwritten letter “from the heart” to let our patriotic troops know that they are not forgotten. The books will be tonight for Sailors on board the USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH aircraft carrier, Army based at Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan, Marines based in Japan, Guam and the Philippines, Air Force based at Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait City, Kuwait and to veterans at 5 area VA hospitals, wounded warriors recuperating at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, and children around the world.
For the last 36 consecutive months, Judith’s Reading Room has shipped books around the world to active duty troops, wounded and to our patriotic veterans because we believe that everyone has the right to read, especially when you are somewhere and there are no books available. The organization consistently reaches out its hand to seek volunteers willing to box books and help pay for the postage. To date, the organization has shipped to the troops and vets alone, 26,065 books worth $283,231. Since its inception, Judith’s Reading Room has established 46 libraries in the Lehigh Valley and around the world containing nearly 47,000 books worth over $494,000.
