Marie Curie, Irene Joliot-Curie, Helene Curie, Lisa Meitner, Rosalind Franklin, Mary Good, Stephanie Kwolek, Caroline Bertozzi, Jacqueline Barton — How many of these names do you recognize?

Women have been “doing science” as long as science has been done.  And they’ve been doing it well!  This talk uses history to set the stage for the current exciting contributions being made by women in all fields of science. Data collected in an NSF-funded study by the American Chemical Society on the participation of women in the chemical sciences underscores the progress that has been made as well as issues that still need attention.

March 17 “Many Moons Remembered” — Opening of exhibit of portraits by Easton artist, Samuel Moon (1805-1860), and continues through May 31, during regular museum hours.

Samuel Moon (1805-1860) opened a studio in Easton in 1830 and proceeded to paint not only landscapes     but portraits of many local people as well as prominent individuals in Philadelphia and other eastern Pennsylvania towns. The NCHGS owns 24 of his portraits, which will be on display. Married to Matilda White, daughter of William “Chippy” White, Center Square hotel owner, the couple had eight children. Moon is buried in the Easton Cemetery.
