Joey & Dan and Milo enjoying a few moments together

From the beginning of their relationship eleven years ago and throughout their three and a half year marriage, the birth of son Milo, now 3, and as the awaited birth of their second baby, Joey and Dan have enjoyed spending time with each other and experiencing life together.

Joey and Dan

Theirs is one special romance built on the desire to make their marriage last a lifetime. Dan says of their engagement many years ago, “Throughout our entire engagement Joey and I chose to make decisions as a couple and our communication during that time was extraordinary. We decided that the most important thing to remember about our wedding day was that we were preparing ourselves for a lifetime of marriage. The engagement was not just about planning a wedding, but planning for a marriage.” Joey and Dan realize that making time to spend together is the most important thing they can do for themselves, their relationship and their family. It is in that endeavor they plan creative fun family oriented activities; family walks, hiking, painting, or just sharing precious moments together is important whether at home or away.

When asked about the most romantic thing they’ve ever shared, the vote unanimously goes to their wedding night. Joey had always dreamed her honeymoon night would be the most romantic night ever, like something you’d see in a movie. Dan knew of her dreams and he decided to make them come true! Their wedding night was also the first night spent in their new home. Dan had a few of their groomsmen leave their wedding reception early and ready the house. Joey said Dan carried her into the house where hundreds of candles were lit and rose petals had been scattered all over the house including in the shape of a heart on their bed! A bubble bath was drawn and two glasses of champagne sat waiting. She got her wish, her groom melted her heart!

For this married couple who are still best friends, date nights are an important concept in their life. As Joey says, “happy parents = happy children.” They are fortunate to have an extended family that is very willing to take young Milo so they can have time together for just the two of them. When it comes to celebrating a special anniversary one of their favorite things to do is go to a local bed and breakfast for time to reconnect. As any couple with young children can attest to, reconnecting as a couple is invaluable. Joey and Dan view their moments together alone as a refreshing time that makes them better parents. Whether it is a getaway or time spent at home, they know these special moments are opportunities to create lovely memories. As human beings we all know that life can change in an instant and solid foundations built out of love and respect sustain us through the good times and the times not so lighthearted. They realize the importance of their future rests on the investment they are committed to today.

On a personal note, I’ve gotten to witness some wonderful moments of Joey and Dan’s love story by photographing them as an engaged couple and then once again when they joined their lives in marriage. In time I helped to chronicle their love by photographing them together in a maternity photo session. A common thread that is always present with Joey and Dan is the feeling of love in the air. They don’t hold anything back. Their love is obvious and anyone around them cannot help but feel it too! When asked to describe their relationship in just a few words they said: secure, passionate, sacramental, honest, adventurous, valued. Now that’s a love to be admired and celebrated!
