zz topZZ Top, which was scheduled to perform at Musikfest Aug. 1, has cancelled several tour dates over the next two weeks due to a surgery for one of the band’s members.

ZZ Top Bassist Dusty Hill is slated to undergo surgery to remove two kidney stones this week, necessitating a delay in the start of the group’s U.S. summer tour.  The kidney stones were discovered in the course of a routine physical examination where Hill’s doctor advised him that they should immediately be removed, lest they cause more serious problems down the line, the group’s management said.

ZZ Top dates affected include Morton, MN (July 25), West Bend, WI (July 26), Cincinnati (July 27), Louisville (July 29), Asheville, NC (July 30) and Bethlehem, PA (Aug. 1). It is expected that Hill will make a full recovery following two weeks of recuperation. ZZ Top’s tour is now set to launch on August 6 in Sturgis, SD with the band joining forces with Jeff Beck for a string of tour dates immediately thereafter.

People who purchased tickets to the ZZ Top Musikfest show will be issued a refund and are asked to contact the ArtsQuest Box Office, 610-332-3378, starting today, July 22, 10 a.m., to request a refund. Individuals who purchased their tickets via cash will need to present their tickets in person at the ArtsQuest Center Box Office, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, Pa.

As a ‘Thank You’ to all ZZ Top ticket buyers, ArtsQuest is waiving all service fees on any tickets they purchase through July 23, 5 p.m., for any Musikfest main stage acts excluding the Keith Urban concert, which is already sold out.

As a result of the concert cancellation, Musikfest does not plan to present an Aug. 1 Sands Steel Stage concert at this time; however, festival-goers will still be able to enjoy an incredible array of great, free music, with more than 30 shows taking place on 13 other stages that evening.
