Iconic hip-hop group and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Run-D.M.C. want you to “Walk This Way” when they headline Musikfest Aug. 6, performing 7:30 p.m. at the festival’s Sands Steel Stage. Tickets are available at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.
Founded in 1981 in Queens, N.Y., Run-D.M.C. is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip-hop, having sold more than 230 million albums while producing hits like “It’s Tricky,” “My Adidas,” “Peter Piper,” “It’s Like That” and their Top 5 cover of the Aerosmith classic “Walk This Way,” featuring Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith.
The group was the first in the genre to have a gold album (Run–D.M.C. in 1984) and platinum album (King of Rock, 1985). They were also the first hip-hop artist to be nominated for a Grammy Award, appear on the cover of Rolling Stone and have music videos featured on MTV.
In 2004, Rolling Stone named Run-D.M.C. No. 48 on its list of the greatest musical artists of all time. Three years later, the trio was named “The Greatest Hip Hop Group of All Time” by MTV.com and “Greatest Hip Hop Artist of All Time” by VH1. In April 2009, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and earlier this year they were presented with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award during the 58th annual Grammy Awards.
The Run-D.M.C. show is supported by media partner B104. One of the largest music festivals in the nation, Musikfest features more than 500 performances on 16 stages throughout Bethlehem over 10 days.
Dates for the 33rd edition of the festival are Aug. 5-14, 2016.
