Black Violin, Go Go Gadjet, The Red Elvises and Jon Cleary & John Scofield Performing at Musikfest Café

Critically acclaimed duo Black Violin, electric funk/rock band Go Go Gadjet, a New Year’s Eve performance by The Red Elvises and the pairing of R&B musician Jon Cleary and renowned jazz artist John Scofield are the latest shows announced for the ArtsQuest Center’s Musikfest Café presented by Yuengling. Tickets for the performances go on sale starting June 30, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and July 3, 10 a.m., to the public at steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.

On Nov. 5, the Musikfest Café welcomes Black Violin to the stage. Classically trained Wilner “Wil B” Baptiste and Kevin “Kev Marcus” Sylvester use string instruments to create unique hip-hop arrangements. The duo has been voted one of the hottest bands at SXSW, accompanied Alicia Keys’ performance of “Karma” at the 2004 Billboard Awards and performed at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Ball.  Since starting Black Violin over a decade ago, Baptiste and Sylvester have performed an average of 200 shows a year across the nation, as well as around the globe. They’ve also appear at official NFL celebrations for three Super Bowls, as well as the U.S. Open in Forest Hills with Jordin Sparks.

John Scofield, who took up the guitar at age 11, has been creating great, improvisational music since the ‘70s. During his career, he has recorded more than 30 albums, while performing and collaborating with artists ranging from Pat Metheny and Mavis Staples, to Government Mule, Phil Lesh and Medeski, Martin & Wood. A master of funk and R&B, Jon Cleary has toured across the country including performances at festivals and events ranging from Mountain Jam to Bonnaroo.  Over the past two decades, he has recorded and performed with artists such as Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King, Eric Burdon and more. On Dec. 6, the Musikfest Café audience will have the opportunity to experience first-hand these two master musicians as they share the stage for one dynamic night of music.
