Scherenschnitte Ornaments for a Holiday Tree
Children and adults will learn the fundamentals of the PA-German folk art, Scherenschnitte, at a holiday ornament-making party at Sigal Museum on Saturday, December 6, 1 – 3 pm.
Led by Sue Mertz, an active practitioner of the art, the activity will give participants the opportunity to create a sample of this “scissors-cutting” art to take home for their holiday tree. While they work, they’ll learn more about the art of cutting paper into symmetrical designs brought to this country by early German immigrants. They’ll hear stories about the craft. They’ll let their imaginations take off with traditional white or more modern colored versions.
Participants will enjoy refreshments and holiday music as they create their own special ornament. The event is FREE. Adults and children welcome.
The Sigal Museum is located at 342 Northampton St., Easton. For additional information, call the Sigal Museum at 610.253.1222 or see the website sigalmuseum.org.
