Snoop Dogg, O.A.R. and 3 Doors Down to Lend a Hand for Unique Concert Photography Workshops at Musikfest This Summer

PHOTOPASS Educational Program & Fundraiser Returns to Festival for Third Year

Snoop Dogg, O.A.R. and 3 Doors Down are partnering with the nonprofit ArtsQuest this summer at Musikfest for the unique PHOTOPASS concert photography workshop and educational fundraiser helping to support ArtsQuest’s free music and arts programming for the region.

Now in its third year, PHOTOPASS features the opportunity to learn about concert photography from professional photographers and includes shooting photos at various stages on the Musikfest grounds including select headliners at the Sands Steel Stage. Workshop dates are Aug. 9 for O.A.R., Aug. 13 for 3 Doors Down and Aug. 15 for Snoop Dogg. Registration is limited to only six students each; the O.A.R. and Snoop Dogg PHOTOPASS workshops go on sale to the public today; the 3 Doors Down workshop will go on sale Friday, July 3.

In PHOTOPASS, students work alongside veteran photographer Brian Hineline, who has photographed hundreds of concerts for publications like Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Time Magazine and Entertainment Weekly; or Lisa Lake, who has photographed concerts for over 20 years for publications such as Rolling Stone, Guitar World, Grammy, Hit Parader and The New York Times.

Workshops begin in ArtsQuest’s Olympus Digital Imaging Center at the Banana Factory arts center, where students learn tips and techniques from Hineline or Lake for taking fabulous concert photographs. Then, it’s on to the festival grounds to shoot the performers at Musikfest’s free stages, including opportunities for behind-the-scenes candids the public doesn’t have access to.  Capping it all off, participants join their instructor in the “Media Pit” at Musikfest’s Sands Steel Stage, only feet from the stage, photographing the headlining act for the first three songs.

Students who take part in the PHOTOPASS workshops may also have the opportunity to have their work featured as part of the Musikfest coverage on lehighvalleylive.com, the online website for The Express-Times daily newspaper. The media outlet covers the program as part of its commitment to supporting music and arts education in the community.

All proceeds from PHOTOPASS go to support ArtsQuest’s Artist & Arts Education Funds, which help the nonprofit arts organization present the 500-plus free concerts at Musikfest annually, as well as a variety of arts and education programming for young people.

Cost per student for the O.A.R. workshop is $199, and cost for the Snoop Dogg and 3 Doors Down workshops are $209 each. Tickets can be purchased at bananafactory.com. Registration fee includes one ticket to the evening’s performance; additional concert tickets may be purchased by phone only at 610-332-3378 Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
