Iconic Comedian Jerry Seinfeld to Headline Musikfest Aug. 10

Musikfest’s first-ever headlining comedy show is one of epic proportions as the festival welcomes internationally-renowned comedian Jerry Seinfeld to its Sands Steel Stage at PNC Plaza Aug. 10, 8:30 p.m. Tickets for the legendary comedian’s performance are $79-$109 and go on sale starting May 1, 10 a.m. at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.

Recognized around the globe for his writing, acting and standup comedy, Seinfeld is perhaps best known for his work on Seinfeld, the Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild-winning television show in which he starred from 1989-’98. Seinfeld was named the greatest television show of all time by TV Guide in 2009 and was identified as the best sitcom ever in a 2012 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll.

Seinfeld has starred in, written and produced movies (Bee Movie, Comedian), directed a Broadway hit (Colin Quinn’s Long Story Short), and even wrote a best-selling book (Seinlanguage) and a children’s book (Halloween). His latest project is the critically-acclaimed and multiple Emmy-nominated series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, seen exclusively on Crackle and on the dedicated website comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com.  The series has garnered 100 million views.

Born in Brooklyn, Seinfeld got his start in comedy in the 1970s, going on to appear on the Tonight Show in 1981.  Over the years, he has performed his stand-up comedy at clubs and theaters throughout the country. In 1988 he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Comedy Awards, and in 2005 Comedy Central named him the 12th greatest comedian on its list of the Greatest Standup Comedians of All Time.  Seinfeld’s appearance at Musikfest marks the first time the festival has presented comedy on its main stage.

“Jerry Seinfeld is without a doubt the perfect choice for our first-ever comedy performance at our main stage,” says ArtsQuest Senior Vice President of Programming Patrick Brogan.  “Since opening SteelStacks in 2011, we’ve continued to expand our comedy programming and shows on the campus each year.  We couldn’t be more thrilled about Mr. Seinfeld’s upcoming appearance at Musikfest, and we know our audience will truly enjoy seeing his incredible standup comedy routine this August.”

The Jerry Seinfeld performance is sponsored by Capital BlueCross and 6abc WPVI. Musikfest, one of the largest music festivals in the nation, is set for Aug. 7-16 in Bethlehem, Pa., with more than 500 performances taking place on 14 stages over 10 days. Other artists confirmed for the festival’s Sands Steel Stage this year include Culture Club Aug. 8, O.A.R. with Allen Stone Aug. 9, REBA Aug. 11, ZZ Top Aug. 12, Darius Rucker Aug. 14 and Alice in Chains Aug. 16.
