Coordinated Health Athlete of the Year

One area student to be selected for $10,000 scholarship

As part of the second annual Coordinated Health Athlete of the Year event, 36 outstanding Lehigh Valley student-athletes who have been recognized as Coordinated Health Athlete of the Week will be honored. One student-athlete will be chosen from the weekly winners as the Coordinated Health Athlete of the Year and will receive a $10,000 scholarship.

The event is Wednesday, June 10 at 6 p.m. Musikfest Cafe, ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, PA 18015

Throughout the 2014-2015 school year the Coordinated Health Athlete of the Week program awarded a $1,000 scholarship to local student-athletes based on athletic achievement.

Home to the most fellowship-trained sports medicine physicians in the Greater Lehigh Valley and serving more schools than any other healthcare provider in the region, Coordinated Health promotes the ideals of a champion. The Athlete of the Year will serve to reflect these values with selection based on demonstrated athletic prowess, leadership on and off the field, and active community involvement.

Fullback for the Super Bowl XLVI Champion New York Giants and Elysburg, Pa., native Henry Hynoski, Jr. will deliver an inspirational speech based on personal experiences focused on the teamwork that elevates athletic careers beyond the individual effort. Each successful student-athlete recognized at the event is Greater Than One, consistent with Coordinated Health’s spring campaign.

At Southern Columbia Area High School in Catawissa, Pa., Hynoski was a National Honor Society member and a letterman in football, baseball, basketball, and track. He scored 113 touchdowns for Southern Columbia.

“Choosing at a very early age to follow in my father’s footsteps and play football in high school, then at the University of Pittsburgh, and then professionally in the NFL has taught me a lot about determination and the teamwork involved in achieving success. It is because of the support of my family, teachers, coaches, and teammates that I have been able to achieve key milestones in my career,” said Hynoski. “To be part of an event that not only recognizes student-athletes, but also their support system, is a great honor. I wish a program like this existed when I was in high school.”

This year, for the first time, Coordinated Health is empowering the community to help select the Coordinated Health Athlete of the Year. With polls open through June 8 and over 3600 votes already submitted, students and supporters can help choose the winner by visiting the Coordinated Health Facebook page or website and casting a vote for their favorite athlete. The social-based popular vote will be just one of the criteria in the selection process.

Last year’s inaugural event featured Pro Football Hall of Fame member Andre Reed, who presented the Coordinated Health Athlete of the Year to Zach Bradley. Bradley will return from Franklin & Marshall to accompany Hynoski in honoring this year’s recipient.
