Single mother of two committed to building a better future builds home with blood, sweat and tears through Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley’s home building program.

habitatWells Fargo, lead sponsor on this 109th Habitat home, enables single mother to build the dream of homeownership alongside hundreds of Lehigh Valley volunteers.  Dedication of the home in Bethlehem’s “Habitat Hill” took place Saturday, September 12, 2015.

Shavone is the mother of two beautiful children, Quincy and Sasha. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and has lived in Bethlehem for the past 16 years. She has been working in the medical field for 11 years and currently works for Lehigh Valley Physicians Group. As a single parent, Shavone is no stranger to the juggling act of working full-time and raising young children, which makes her dedication to Habitat’s Home Building program over the last 18 months commendable.

Shavone’s dream was to move her family from a cramped, two-bedroom apartment into a home they could call their own. She used to think that as a single parent, owning her own home would be impossible. What she realized was, once she put her priorities in order, God put the right people in her life to help her succeed at reaching her goals and dreams.

“Being a Habitat partner family has been a blessing for me and my children. Habitat for Humanity has helped me make my kids’ dreams come true. Now they can enjoy their new home and focus on this next chapter in their lives. This is just the beginning,” says Shavone.

Wells Fargo, the lead sponsor on this home, donated $35,000 towards Shavone’s new Habitat home and has volunteered over 600 hours on the construction of this home.

About Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to provide affordable housing for hardworking low-income families. Homeowners commit to 250 hours of “sweat equity” to be eligible for a Habitat home. Partner families repay a no-interest mortgage as part of Habitat’s philosophy of giving potential homeowners a “hand up” instead of a “hand out.” Since 1989, Habitat has built and renovated over 100 homes in the Lehigh Valley and has dedicated its 100th home last year.
