The Bangor High School Select Choir will have the opportunity to headline at Musikfest on Aug. 7 when it shares the stage with legendary rock band Foreigner. The choir has been invited to join Foreigner to perform the band’s 1984 smash hit, “I Want to Know What Love Is,” during its Sands Steel Stage concert starting at 7 p.m.

“As far as I’m concerned, music is not only the most powerful form of communication between the peoples of the world, it provides a gateway that opens up a fantastic new dimension of feeling and creativity. Anything we can do to provide our young ones with the tools to express themselves through music is our goal in this partnership,” Foreigner guitarist and founding member Mick Jones says.

While Foreigner is sharing the stage with the Bangor Choir, it’s also sharing with the high school in another way. As part of its performance, the iconic rock group will also donate $500 to Bangor High School to use towards its choir program.

“The Bangor Select Choir is very excited for this event. The students are grateful that Foreigner is giving them the opportunity to showcase their talents, and for the financial support for the choral program,” says Choir Director Chris Connelly. “This performance will go a long way in showcasing the talented students and the positive things that can come when your school, district, and community insist on supporting the arts in our schools.”

One of the most popular bands in rock history, Foreigner has been involved with numerous charities over the years including VH-1 Save the Music, the Red Cross and the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals, along the way raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for these worthy causes.

The group has produced 16 Top 30 hits over the years, including nine that made the Top 10 on the charts. Among its biggest singles are the chart-topping “I Want to Know What Love Is,” as well as “Waiting For a Girl Like You,” “Double Vision,” “Hot Blooded,” “Feels Like the First Time,” “Urgent” and “I Don’t Want to Live Without You.”

Bangor High School Choir was invited to share the stage with Foreigner after capturing first-place in the WODE Foreigner Choir Contest, which featured videos submitted by local high schools. The choir’s version of “Whatever Happened to a Saturday Night” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show was named the overall winner after receiving the most votes during the online voting contest.
