LEHIGH VALLEY MALL IS SCARING HUNGER AWAY THIS HALLOWEEN
Event to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank
CanstructionJoin Lehigh Valley Mall, 250 Lehigh Valley Mall, Whitehall PA and Canstruction of the Greater Lehigh Valley for their inaugural event to help benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. Watch as teams of engineers, designers, manufacturers and contractors come together for this year’s theme, “S’caring Hunger Away”, to design and build Halloween-themed canned food structures this Thursday. Judging of the six competition pieces will take place on Friday with Whitehall Township’s Mayor Ed Hozza and other community leaders, followed by technical judging on Saturday. Winning sculptures will be announced on Monday.Canstruction® is a unique non-profit organization that hosts competitions and exhibitions in more than 150 cities across the world. Showcasing colossal structures made entirely from canned food, the structures are put on display for the public before all food is donated to a local food charity, raising millions of pounds of food.

Second Harvest Food Bank distributes food and grocery product to more than 67,000 people in need per month through a network of more than 200 member agencies in Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, and Wayne counties.  These agencies include emergency pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, child-care and rehabilitation centers.  Last year, Second Harvest distributed more than 7 million pounds of food to people in need through these organizations.  As part of its mission, the Food Bank also provides resources for education and advocacy to end hunger.  Second Harvest Food Bank is a program of the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley (CACLV) and is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network and largest hunger relief organization.
