CEDARBROOK NURSING HOMES-Fountain Hill & Allentown need volunteers for Gift Shop to wait on customers, run register, and stock shelves. Also needed are In-House Transporters to push residents in wheel chairs to programs and the beauty shop. Become a VIP and brighten the lives of our residents while enriching yours. COMMUNITY BIKE WORKS, Allentown needs “Earn-a-Bike” instructors for children ages 9-17. Volunteers will mentor and assist children in repairing bicycles. FAMILIES FIRST, Pen Argyl needs Facilitators for high school students 9th through 12th grades. Facilitators meet with a group of students once a month (7:40am-9:20am at Pen Argyl High School) to encourage higher education or vacational careers by selecting guest speakers and/or sharing their own experiences. HISTORIC BETHLEHEM MUSEUMS & SITES – Join us at Burnside Plantation for our Apple Days Festival on Saturday, Sept. 12. We are looking for volunteers from 9am-5pm who enjoy engaging with the public and who would be able to assist with our apple pie baking contest, children’s games and crafts, our attic treasures sale, and more! Volunteers receive a Pass Into History good for our annual holiday tree display, and must be 14 years old or older or be accompanied by parent/guardian. PHOEBE HOME NURSING & REHABILITATION CENTER, Allentown has volunteer opportunities in our gift/coffee shop. Responsibilities include learning the cash register, making coffee, stocking pastry case, and assisting residents and guests. Should have friendly disposition, enjoy conversation, and interact well with others. Training and orientation provided. Openings for Saturdays 8:30am to noon or Sundays 8:30am to noon or 12-4pm. SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, Allentown needs volunteers to pack Sunshine Boxes every first Tuesday of the month from 8:30am-1pm. We pack 1,995 boxes each month which are then distributed to 6 counties. UNITED WAY OF THE GREATER LEHIGH VALLEY, Allentown is looking for a volunteer (18+ years) to assist with 2015 Workplace Fundraising Campaign for about 10-20 hours per week. Duties include preparing materials for presentations, collecting pledge envelopes and processing them. Schedule is flexible within normal Monday to Friday business hours. Must have own reliable transportation to/from appointments around the Lehigh Valley; mileage and business expenses are reimbursed. BETHLEHEM SPECIAL OLYMPICS, Bethlehem is looking for a volunteer to be in charge of writing “Thank You” notes to donors. Must be good with corresponding via email and writing hand written thank you notes, should have very neat handwriting and excellent organizational and written skills. DAVINCI SCIENCE CENTER, Allentown seeks enthusiastic, curious people to be Exhibit Floor Volunteers.   Volunteers engage visitors in hands-on-exhibits and exciting science experiments. Should be comfortable speaking with individuals and groups and be able to be on exhibit floor for up to four consecutive hours. An initial training orientation, as well as required quarterly training is provided. Required to obtain PA Criminal Background Check and PA Child Abuse Clearances. DELAWARE & LEHIGH NATIONAL HERITAGE CORRIDOR, INC., Easton has several volunteer opportunities available. Help with trail clean ups on Weds 8/26 through 9/23 or Sats 8/29 through 9/12 from 8:30-11:30am. Water and tools will be supplied. Docents are also needed. Volunteers will receive resource materials and appropriate costumes; bring notepad and pen. Docent training on Weds 9/2 to 9/ 23 from 6-7:15pm. MEALS ON WHEELS OF LEHIGH COUNTY, Allentown needs companies/organizations/individuals/groups to coordinate collections of shelf staple food items for our blizzard bags. A list of specific items can be provided. Blizzard bags are given to clients when meals can’t be delivered due to bad weather or other emergencies. MIRACLE LEAGUE OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY, Schnecksville is gearing up for fall baseball games and needs volunteers to help children with special needs play baseball. Help needed for Friday nights 7pm games and Saturday games at 10am, 11:15 am, and 12:30pm. Each game is no more than 1.5 hours long. Assist players move around the bases, swing a bat, and play catch in the outfield. No prior experience working with children with special needs is necessary. NORTHAMPTON CO. HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, Easton has a volunteer opening for a Curatorial Internship at the Sigal Museum. Skills developed with this internship involve labeling/tagging/packing/photographing objects for accession, writing posts to social media, explore and document inventories, research projects, and help with marketing. VOLUNTEER CENTER OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY, Bethlehem is looking for volunteers to coordinate drives for empty shoe boxes to be used for our annual “Holiday Hope Chests” program.   Shoe boxes may be dropped off at our address 2121 City Line Rd, Bethlehem between 8:30am-4:30PM Monday to Friday. The Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley has been connecting volunteers with the needs of the Lehigh Valley community for over 25 years. The organization’s mission is to engage the community to care for one another through volunteerism.

As the premier resource on volunteerism for the Lehigh Valley and surrounding communities, The Volunteer Center focuses on four main areas of volunteerism: Recruitment, Placement, Recognition, and Training. The Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is affiliated nationally with The Points of Light Foundation, Hands On Network, and the Corporation for National & Community Service, and is a member of the following organizations: Volunteer Centers of Pennsylvania, the State Commission Advisory Board for Citizen Service, Keystone Service Coalition, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, and Society of Volunteer Administrators of the Lehigh Valley.

As an example of the impact the Volunteer Center has on the community, in 2012, they recruited, matched, recognized and trained 17,000 volunteers. Of those, 5,000 were youth volunteers. These volunteers saved Lehigh Valley agencies and the community more than $47.5 million. The Volunteer Center collaborates with more than 50 area corporations and 450 Lehigh Valley agencies to create educational and human service partnerships to enhance and enrich the Lehigh Valley community.
