Fraktur art is the Pennsylvania German art form brought to the US by immigrants from the German principalities beginning in the 1700s. Artists decorated birth and baptismal certificates to celebrate and record the birth of a child. The art pieces became treasured family heirlooms, a number of which are on display in the museum.
