Jump into Spring with HBMS Kid’s Club Crafts Spring Line Up
Join Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites (HBMS) on the last Sunday of the month for our year-long Kid’s Club programs at the Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts from 1 to 3 pm! Once again partnering with ArtsQuest, HBMS will present fun, interactive crafts that children of all ages will enjoy creating from scratch. Kid’s Club attendees will also enjoy engaging “kid’s eye view” tours of the museum!
Local multi-talented freelance artist Natalie Hartman leads spring Kid’s Club activities. Natalie’s background includes teaching arts & crafts at the Banana Factory to school age children.
Upcoming programs:
March 26 – Shrink Art Hair Pins
Create colorful hair pins, necklaces, and key chains using plastic shrink film and your imagination! Draw inspiration from examples of Victorian adornments from the Historic Bethlehem Collections. See pins and jewelry from the Victorian Era made from hair!
Sunday, April 30– Camera Obscura
Learn how to create this simple device that lead to the invention of photography! Personalize your hand crafted camera using markers and fun embellishments! Check out a display of different cameras and learn about how developing technology changed photography.
Sunday, May 28– Sun Print Art
Learn how to make a sun print (or cyanotype), an early technique for making photographs without a camera! Try out an authentic Stereoscope, a Victorian tool used to see photographs in three dimensions!
Parents will enjoy viewing HairWork: Relics of Remembrance, an exhibition dedicated to the various ways people used loved ones’ hair to create unique, lasting mementos during the Victorian Era.
All Kid’s Club programs are free for kids ages up to 17 and HBMS members. For non-members, Kid’s Club activities are free with admission to the museum starting at $10.
