Film Lovers, there is a brand new cinema in our area that was designed with the comfort and pleasure of the movie-goer in mind. Let’s talk about the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema in theArtsQuestCenterat SteelStacks Campus inBethlehem. What a place!
As a film buff I am always excited about theaters and movie openings, so when I read about the new cinema opening this past May at SteelStacks, that’d be showing independent, foreign, documentary and scientific films, I was beyond excited to check it out. Since it opened I have been there four times and I must say it is a unique and wonderful, Indie Arthouse cinema experience. There are two theaters each with super comfortable, roomy seating in stadium style arrangements.
Setting this cinema apart is it is an alehouse. The Bar and Bistro located in the lobby offer adult beverages and a menu that is not the standard movie theater fare. Mike & Ike Bistro offers wraps, burgers, and salads so if you arrive hungry you can select something tasty and substantial. I love this feature as my husband and I are usually racing to catch a showing in the7:00hour and most often we haven’t had time to eat beforehand. So grabbing a burger and heading into the movie is totally perfect. And isn’t it so nice to enjoy a delicious glass of wine or your favorite alcoholic beverage while watching your movie! They’ve really got it figured out so well there, eats, drinks, entertaining stimulating films….a real movie lovers paradise!
Special Programming such as the Friday/Saturday Late Night Horror series, or the Tuesday Film Discussion Series add even more interest and diversity to this exciting new cinema scene. Recently there was an Eco Documentary Series and a John Hughes tribute showing Ferris Bueller and Pretty in Pink. There are Soundtrack Comes Alive Events like The Great White Caps, a surf rock band playing on stage in front of Point Break, with the band providing the soundtrack. What a way cool immersion of music and film.
