The Season of the Trees around the Valley and throughout the region is upon us. Locally taking a drive just about anywhere through towns, neighborhoods and back roads will yield plenty of dazzling flowering trees from Cherrys to Magnolias, to Dogwoods, and Crabapples. The displays are splendid throughout the streets and courtyards and cultural areas of Bethlehem and Allentown.
Up for venturing to Philadelphia to let the magic of the Cherry Trees captivate you? Well then you must check out the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival and the centerpiece event of the Festival happening next weekend, SAKURA SUNDAY on April 15th in Fairmount Park’s Horticulture Center. The event is a centuries-old tradition bringing together the best in Japanese art, cuisine, dance, fashion, flowers, music and more. Here’s a list of locations for Philly’s Trees:
A: Kelly Drive
North of Boathouse Row, past where Girard Ave crosses Kelly Drive
B: Memorial Hall
On Lansdown Drive, behind Memorial Hall
C: West River/Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive
From south of Montgomery Drive north to Falls Bridge
D: Belmont Plateau
Along Belmont Mansion Drive overlooking the city
E: Horticultural Center
Cherry trees from JASGP plantings and the original 1926 plantings
Perhaps you are up for traveling a bit further south to witness the splendid array of Cherry Trees in our Nations capitol, the 2012 Centennial National Cherry Blossom Festival. The Centennial celebration marks the One Hundred Year ago gift of 3000 trees that Japan bestowed upon the United States as a symbol of friendship.
There is much beauty and festivity surrounding these trees and festivals. There is still time to take it all in as the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival runs through April 21 and the National Cherry Blossom Festival goes till April 27.
Enjoy the beauty of these images of the Spring Blooms taken this season around the Valley!
