Sigal Museum Offers Fraktur Art Workshops for Children

Saturday, October 20 and November 17 Workshops in PA-German Fraktur Art for children, ages 9-11, will be offered at the Sigal Museum, 342 Northampton St., Easton, 10 am – 1 pm, under the direction of Larry Brown, art instructor. Workshops are free for children and their accompanying adult. Children make a fraktur sample to take home. The workshops are made possible by a grant from Crayola.

Fraktur art is the Pennsylvania German art form brought to the US by immigrants from the German principalities beginning in the 1700s. Artists decorated birth and baptismal certificates to celebrate and record the birth of a child. The art pieces became treasured family heirlooms, a number of which are on display in the museum.
