5TH-annual festival will now kick off its 2015 run at noon on Sat., Oct. 3
The opening of the 5th-annual Oktoberfest presented by Yuengling has been pushed back to Sat., Oct. 3, based on the inclement weather forecasted for the Lehigh Valley region Friday night. The festival, originally scheduled to open at 5 p.m. tonight, will now get underway at noon Saturday, with a full slate of activities including all Brewers Village tasting sessions planned for Saturday.
“The patron experience and the safety of our guests is always our main focus at all of our festivals and events, “ says ArtsQuest Sr. Vice President of Administration Walter Keiper. “Multiple forecasting agencies are predicting windy, rainy conditions with temperatures in the low ‘50s or even the ‘40s Friday evening, which would likely result in less-than-ideal conditions for patrons. The good news in all this is that there’s still plenty of time to enjoy Oktoberfest and all its festivities, as weather forecasters are predicting better weather for the rest of the weekend. Plus, there’s a second weekend of Oktoberfest to enjoy Oct. 9-11.“
Starting at noon Saturday, Oktoberfest will kick off with live music on two stages, delicious food by 10 vendors and fun games like stein races, barrel rolling competitions, quoits and more. Other highlights of the weekend include a Penn State-Army football game viewing party on the Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks lawn on Saturday and the popular dachshund races on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Individuals who purchased tickets for the Oct. 2, 7 p.m., Brewers Village session will be able to use their tickets at any of the Brewers Village sessions on Sat., Oct. 3 or Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10. The official Oktoberfest Keg Tap with D.G. Yuengling & Son’s Jennifer Yuengling has been rescheduled for Oct. 10, 3:30 p.m., at the Yuengling Festhalle Tent.
Oktoberfest presented by Yuengling takes place at SteelStacks in Bethlehem; event hours are Fri., 5-10 p.m.; Sat., noon-10 p.m.; and Sun, noon-8 p.m. Partners helping to support the free festival include D.G. Yuengling & Son, as well as Adams Outdoor Advertising, Beck Packaging, Chevy 21, Service Electric Cable TV & Communications, Think Energy and 99.9 The Hawk.
