ARTISTS INVITED TO TAKE PART IN FIRST BARREL DECORATING CONTEST AT OKTOBERFEST PRESENTED BY YUENGLING

D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc., Banko Beverage Company and ArtsQuest are inviting artists to help them roll out the barrel by transforming beer kegs into wonderful works of art during the first Oktoberfest Dekorative Bier Fass Wettbewerb (Decorative Beer Barrel Competition), Oct. 5, 6 and 12 at Oktoberfest presented by Yuengling

The Oktoberfest Beer Barrel Decorating Competition will feature 12 artists adding their artistic touch to beer barrels while competing for cash prizes. Barrels will be decorated at Oktoberfest on the event’s first weekend, Oct. 5-6, 1-5 p.m. daily, with the competition’s winners announced Oct. 12. The theme for the inaugural competition is ‘German Heritage with a Pennsylvania Flair,’ and Oktoberfest attendees are invited to watch the artists hard at work during the festival.

Artists interested in taking part in the competition must submit an application, sketch and short proposal to ArtsQuest by Sept. 6, 5 p.m.; artists selected for the competition will be notified Sept. 13.

On Oct. 12, Oktoberfest guests will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite barrels for the festival’s Menschen Choice Awards, as well as bid for the opportunity to own the barrels during a silent auction. Both the competition and auction winners will be announced 8 p.m. Oct. 12, with the first-place artist taking home $200 and a glass trophy created by the glass artists of the Banana Factory. Second prize will be $150 and third prize will be $100. All proceeds from the auction will go to support the ArtsQuest Programming Fund, which helps support ArtsQuest’s free programming for the community throughout the year.
