Enjoy a special behind the scenes look at the newly expanded and reappointed Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts on Grand re-opening weekend, September 20-22. Guests will enjoy hands on object examination and refreshments from 11am-4pm.
The new Collections Resource Center is a 5,000 sq ft addition to the Kemerer Museum that will house the most sensitive artifacts in Historic Bethlehem’s 60,000+ collection. The center will include a floor-to-ceiling glass wall that allows the public to more easily view the collections. Researchers and guests will also have increased access.
Pennsylvania’s only Decorative Arts Museum, Kemerer is one of only 15 museums in the United States exclusively dedicated to Decorative Arts. The Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts features portraits and landscapes lining the walls, while jewels, china and silver sparkle from every angle. The collection is expansive and includes examples of Pennsylvania German textiles, exquisite furniture, and priceless Bohemian glass.
The Kemerer will be re-opening to the general public on September 20 following the addition of a two-story environmentally controlled vault featuring glass walls which will house all of the most sensitive paintings, textiles and glassware. Guests will enjoying viewing these priceless artifacts, some never before on display!
The Kemerer Museum is also home to the distinguished E.J. Prime dollhouse and toy collection, one of the largest antique dollhouse collections in the United States. Check out the Once Upon a Treehouse kids interactive room here!
