Expanded coverage begins today and includes U.S.A. vs. Germany match June 26

After receiving tremendous response from the community throughout its first weekend, including an estimated 8,000 people watching the big U.S.A. win vs. Ghana, the FIFA World Cup SoccerFest & Viewing Party at SteelStacks has expanded its coverage of the World Cup Brazil™ games to include all remaining matches through the tournament’s finals July 13. None of SteelStacks’ regular programming, including the Levitt Summer Family Movie Series and Levitt Summer Concert Series presented by Highmark Blue Shield, will be affected by the showings of the additional World Cup matches.

This week, six additional World Cup matches will be shown on the giant outdoor LED screen on the Air Products Town square starting at noon today with the Belgium vs. Algeria game.  All three matches today, including Brazil vs. Mexico at 3 p.m., and tomorrow, including Spain vs. Chile at 3 p.m., will be shown on the giant screen.

Following the conclusion of the SoccerFest June 22, the SteelStacks campus will continue to show all the World Cup matches on the Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks’ outdoor screen including Italy vs. Uruguay June 24 at noon; Ecuador vs. France June 25, 4 p.m.; and the big U.S. game vs. Germany June 26, noon. The SteelStacks campus will also show all knockout round matches right through the finals, set for July 13, 3 p.m. Although the LED screen on the Air Products Town Square will come down after June 22, the Levitt Pavilion will serve as an excellent location for watching the games, especially with the amazing backdrop of the former Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces right behind the screen. The only matches that will not be shown on the Levitt screen are the June 23 matches due to the Yuengling Sumer Concert Series’ Tegan and Sara show that evening at 7:30 p.m.

“One of the original goals in developing SteelStacks was to create a destination that would bring the community together for unique celebrations and experiences. This past weekend at the FIFA World Cup SoccerFest & Viewing Party was an excellent example of this, with guests from across the Lehigh Valley and throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region coming together to celebrate the excitement and passion of the World’s Game,” says ArtsQuest Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations Curt Mosel. “From soccer coaches and players, to the many fans who came out to cheer on their favorite team, this event drew many people to SteelStacks for the first time, introducing them to the great cultural programming available here in Bethlehem and the Lehigh Valley.

“On behalf of the entire SoccerFest Organizing Committee, we thank all of our partners, sponsors, volunteers and the community for helping to make this event so successful.  The best part is there’s still plenty of great soccer action to come!”

In addition to the Levitt Pavilion screen, the World Cup games will also be shown on the PBS Public Media & Education Center’s outdoor screen, as well as the television screens inside the Art Quest Center at SteelStacks. Before, during and after all of the games, guests can purchase food and beverages at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks.
